How to install Dragonfire voice assistant in Ubuntu?

Dragonfire is an open-source voice assistant for Ubuntu-based Linux systems. It uses Mozilla’s Deepspeech to understand the voice commands and Festival speech synthesis system to handle text to speech tasks.

When you use voice commands the Dragonfire goes through the following steps  –

  • Search into builtin commands and evaluate expressions
  • Try to learn using advanced NLP and DBMS techniques
  • Try to search on the open-domain question and answering engine
  • It responds using a Deep conversation system and a neural network trained with Cornell Movie Dialogs Corpus

How to install Dragonfire in Ubuntu

To install Dragonfire in Ubuntu first go to its download page and download the latest deb file of Dragonfire voice assistant.

Make sure Python is installed on your system, use the following command after downloading the Dragonfire deb file –

sudo dpkg -i Downloads/dragonfire_1.1.1_amd64.deb

To install dependencies run the following command after executing the above command –

sudo apt install -f

The installation will automatically download the pre-trained Engish model of Mozilla DeepSpeech and place it under /usr/share/dragonfire/deepspeech/model directory.

How to use Dragonfire in Ubuntu

Once Dragonfire is set up successfully, from the Ubuntu application launcher search and open Dragonfire.

To activate Dragonfire say “DRAGONFIRE” or “HEY” or “WAKE UP”.

To deactivate her say “GO TO SLEEP”.

To silence her say “ENOUGH” or “SHUT UP”.

To kill her say “GOODBYE” or “BYE BYE” or “SEE YOU LATER” or “CATCH YOU LATER”.
